Current mood: amused

Tonsilitis and a trip to Bangkok kept me away from the newsroom for over a week. I'm glad to be back, because surfing the wires always gives me a pleasurable chuckle now and again.

For instance, on hearing that my PM Manmohan Singh has been invited to George W Bush's ranch. Now I know that is a "signal honour", but what I'm wondering is, does Bush know Mr Singh will not eat beef? And is probably vegetarian?

Have put down "possible international incident" on my calendar, around the days of the visit.

In other news, my interest in anime grows apace. If only my fluency in Japanese kept up!

have you ever seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding?

Aunt Voula: What do you mean he don't eat no meat?
[the entire room stops, in shock]
Aunt Voula: Oh, that's okay. I make lamb.

Heh, yes, precisely,
I loved that movie, it could have been 'My Big Fat Indian Wedding' too.

Aaah, yet another anime rec to drive me away from the real world!

:) I love anime associated with the Meiji Restoration Period, and it's even better when it's funny, like Gintama, which is my current craze. Have watched and adored every episode of Peacemaker Kurogane and Ouran High School Host Club, both of which hooked me on the genre. Am also halfway through Chobits and Gunslinger Girl, both of which have their merits. Am dipping my toes into Bleach too. What about you?

Um ... fluency in Japanese? As opposed to, oh, maybe the half-dozen words and phrases that I know, which is surely half a dozen words and phrases more than the average U.S. resident knows?

I'm taking language classes, and can now recognise 15 basic verbs and verb structures, as well as construct simple sentences in the present tense. :) Watching dubbed anime is helping me increase my vocabulary too.

Where's the beef?

We'll be lucky if Mr. Bush remembers the PM's name. Remember the leader whose first name was "General?"

I do see your point about the meat though; perhaps someone should inform Bush that the "Prime" in PM does not refer to some exotic type of beef.
